When a company decides to relocate to larger premises, the existing telephone system is usually one of the first casualties of the move. At their old site, Bunzl were using a Samsung DCS telephone system, installed three years previously and since upgraded by Digital Telecom to double its capacity and add extra features. The new Samsung iDCS500 at Agecroft utilises 20 Primary Rate ISDN30e channels to provide 200 DDI (Direct Dial-In) numbers, to give 20 incoming and outgoing pathways to 90 plus digital handsets plus more than 20 analogue handsets and 12 DECT (digitally enhanced cordless telephony) portable handsets. It also includes Automated Attendant (Call Queuing with multi-level announcements) and Voicemail with over a 100 hours record time, together with call management software that allows statistics such as missed calls to be analysed graphically, and an S/o bus module allowing channels to be dedicated to fast data transfer only as and when needed. From a user perspective, the switch to the new system went remarkably smoothly. According to Bunzl I. T. Manager Mike Unsworth: “We shut down at the old site on a Friday night , and were up and running on Monday morning so that the staff could sit down and start working. The staff didn't notice any difference, except for the addition of a few more features as some of them moved from analogue to digital handsets.” Mike continues: “Digital Telecom helped a lot during the move, I’ve been working with them for a couple of years now and have always had a good response whenever we needed any work done.” Experience with the system since installation has been: “Lovely – we’ve had no problems.” Mr. Mike Unsworth, I.
